Despite all the difficulties we face in South Africa, we are a talented, resilient people with so much potential that we should nurture by doing business within a framework of respect, compassion and authenticity.
Like all small business owners, my entrepreneurial journey to establish The Human Element includes many lessons. Finding myself “stuck between a rock and hard place” in a job I disliked, and having to make a quick decision about going it alone without proper planning or expertise was the first shock.
I was a spoiled "corporate animal" and clueless about registering a business, branding, marketing, pricing, targeting the right clients, networking, using social media, etc., and I had to learn fast!
Relocating from Durban to Cape Town nine years later required that I learn more lessons in how to re-position myself and update my business offerings to meet the needs of different markets, while remaining relevant and true to my ethos.
